Ma Jaya's Teachings From Kashi Ashram

Ma Jaya has been teaching at Kashi Ashram for over 30 years. The teachings here have been taken from several sources - the Kali Natha Yoga Teacher Training Manual; Ma's Daily Prayer Blog; and transcripts of Ma Jaya's darshans.

______________

CONTENTMENT (Santosh)

Ask the Mother to liberate you from wanting that which will hurt your spiritual progress. Be aware of your own beauty this moment. Ask the Mother to make you aware of your own purity.

Limit your desires, and you will find that breathing with awareness is the one way that will free your mind from discontentment. The moment then expands with love and the heart’s thoughts of the now.  This gives you the power to consume all things. Live your life in the moment, and you will be fanning a heart-fire that will keep your heart open and full. The moment brings you everything. You are never preoccupied or defeated in the now. You are wide open to receive the Mother’s blessings. These blessings make you whole and complete. Contentment, freedom and love are always there for you, just a breath away.

The spirit cannot be content unless there is gratitude. Those without gratitude live in a make-believe world of lies and betrayal. Gratitude can bring you to the place of hesitation before you go jumping into different spaces of negativity.

Sit and be content with what you have. This is a place of gratitude. The moment is very rich if you are humble enough to be grateful for the moment. Contentment and compassion come from listening to the divine voice that is always whispering to you, “Love God, love Goddess; love God, love Goddess.”

Ingratitude is one of the greatest obstacles on the path. Ingratitude makes you limit your life. When you forget that someone has helped you, or you judge others who have always been there for you no matter what you do or where you go, your heart will never be filled.  How can you find the real you if you do not have gratitude? When these obstacles are removed from the path, you begin to feel free in giving love and affection.

If you do not think of being grateful, it does not make itself known. Yet if you begin to look around you and give thanks for the smallest things in your life, gratitude awakens in you, and you will always live your life with thanks. This becomes your way of life. Gratitude is the blessing of a good heart. Gratitude is not growing old in vain. Gratitude gives birth to non-violence and to a peaceful existence. Only those with gratitude can truly be happy.
